INTRODUCTION

The Department of Agriculture is one of the decentralized departments of the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly mandated to develop agriculture through a series of demand-driven approaches suitable for transforming the agricultural sector within the Municipal. The department also oversee the implementation of agricultural policies, interventions and directions towards the realization of national goals and set targets as stipulated by the Government.

Estimated farmer population for the Municipal is 16,249 comprising of 13,977 males and 2,272 females.

This report gives an overview of all agricultural activities carried out by the New Juaben North Municipal Department of Agriculture during the reporting period from April – June 2023.

Analysis 

From the table above, a total amount of GH₵ 59,098.63 has been released by MAG for work plan activities while GH₵ 5,098.68 was released as GoG Funds for Goods & Services to the department.

 Analysis  

Annual work plan activities for the year 2023 are Twenty-eight (28) of which Seventeen (17) have been implemented and completed as at 2nd Quarter 2023. The other activities will be implemented in the subsequent quarters of 2023.

Most PERD fields have been established in the Municipality

 

Analysis

A total of 14,232 oil palm seedlings was received by the department and 14,205 was distributed to beneficiary farmers whiles out of the 4,000 coconut seedlings received, 3,994 seedlings were distributed to beneficiary farmers. Few seedlings got spoilt in the process of loading and offloading. Farmers are content and still demanding for more of such seedlings especially the coconut.

Analysis

Staff strength with their categories, that’s number at post and age distribution reduced by 1 due to the compulsory retirement of a Vet TO as compared to the previous quarter. So far, the Department is coping well with the current Technical strength.
