Two hundred and sixty (260) STEMIE (Science, Technology, Engineering Mathematics, Innovation and Education) students, made up of 112 males and 148 females from Junior High School within thirteen (13) MMDA”S in the Eastern Region participated this year EASTERN REGIONAL STMIE CAMP, 2022 which is held annually to whip up interest in the science among students at Ghana Senior High School, Koforidua.
The Municipal chief executive for New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, Hon. Comfort Asante, in her welcome address urge all participating schools in the Region to give off their best, and learn something through series of activities, assignments and science related projects.
She was confident that the outcome of this camp would be positive to steer our nation Ghana on the path of scientific knowledge to enhance our development agenda.
The Deputy Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Abuakwa North Constituency Hon. Gifty Twum Ampofo, in her speech said the Government of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo have the firm belief that our children must be given a strong foundation in science education right from the basic level, and for this reason encouraging the teaching and learning of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in our schools through ongoing educational reforms.
This is to ensure that we do less theory and more practicals, to bring forth innovations that will help in personal and national development as a whole.
She said our world today keeps revolving with the aid of science and technology,
and as a nation, we have to invest and channel our resources into it, to help solve our societal problems and propel national development.
Through science, a lot of inventions have been made, which has made life better.
Today we have medications and vaccines to cure sicknesses, we can communicate with people around the world using our mobile phones and other devices, and we can travel to space and also use machines to make work easier and faster.
