NUMBER OF HOUSES SUBMERGED AFTER DOWNPOUR

Hundreds of residents at Akwadum zongo in the New Juaben North Municipality have fled their homes after several hours of downpour submerge their homes and thousands of properties have been lost in the process.

The rains which started on Friday 30th September, 2022 became worse after the Densu River which flows through the communities went over its banks on Sunday.

Half of the Akwadum community, Electricity company of Ghana (ECG) Regional office, Effiduase Highways, Abrewa Nkwanta, Asokore and other areas were all submerge.

Meanwhile, business owners and home owners have begun counting their losses after the last night devastating floods when a team from the New Juaben North Municipal Assembly led by Hon. Comfort Asante, with  Member of Parliament for New Juaben North constituency, Hon.  Nana Adjei Boateng, and officials from Ghana Highway Authority and Urban roads during its monitoring to see the extent of the damage on Monday 3rd October, 2022.

In an interview with the Member of Parliament with the media appeal to the higher Authority to assists the Municipality with re-structuring of our drainage systems in Koforidua at large.

He also partly blame the intense flooding due to illegal mining activities on upstream.

The Municipal Chief Executive in her visitation to some affected communities to assess the extent of damage said the level of flooding was unprecedented.

Over the years, it has been flooding here but the extent to which Akwadum got flooded this time, we have never seen it like that.

According to some residents, they have lost all their monies, electrical gadgets, homes, and business.
