Planting for Export and Rural Development (PERD)

The PERD programme is a decentralised National Tree Crop Programme to promote rural economic growth and improve households’ incomes of rural farmers through the provision of certified improved seedlings, support services and regulatory mechanism.

The project of raising the oil palm seedlings, and distributing them to farmers in the municipality has been an on-going activity from the year 2019 through to 2023. Updates of data collected is being tabulated below.

            District Seedlings Distributed Under the PERD Program

As part of the PERD project, oil palm seedlings were distributed to beneficiary farmers within the Municipality for the quarter under review. These seedlings were supplied to the Municipality by Minerals Commission.

Analysis

A total of 6,000 oil palm seedlings was received by the department and was distributed to beneficiary farmers. Few seedlings got spoilt in the process of loading and offloading. Farmers are pleased and still demanding for more of such seedlings particularly the coconut.

Analysis

A total of 39.83 Ha have been established in the 4th Quarter of 2023 under PERD within the NJNMA.
