REPORT ON A TOWN HALL MEEETING IN THE NEW JUABEN NORTH MUNICIPALITY

The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly organized a town hall meeting at Oyoko, a suburb of the municipality.

The forum was held with the theme: “Good Governance; The Role of Stakeholders”. The meeting was also part of Government’s policy of bringing local governance to the doorstep of the citizenry.

The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive Representative, Madam Sally in her address showcased the numerous projects undertaken by the Assembly and the ones that were yet to be completed. He stressed that, despite the novelty of the assembly, they are trying their very best to set the Municipality on a good developmental ladder.

She urged everyone that MCE doors are opened for any form of complaints and suggestions when the need be.

Mr. Alhaji. Muntala Alhassan, the Municipal Finance Officer in his presentation listed a number of infrastructural developmental Projects by the Assembly. These includes building schools, health Administration office, Chip compounds, roads, mechanized boreholes, an Astro Turf park and renovations of some selected buildings.

He explained that the total amount of money received from the Central Government for the year 2023 and its expenditure included staff salaries.

He stressed that new measures are being put in place to aid the effective collection of revenue in 2024.

 

ISSUES RAISED

Brother Kojo Antwi a resident in Oyoko reported and complained on how the municipal has neglected the Oyoko Township and pleading for the community school, Oyoko Methodist to be constructed. He went to state that the main bridge of the community needs to be reconstructed to prevent flood during rainy season or a heavy rain fall.

Opanin Yaw Boakye Mensah, the Abusuapayin also complained bitterly on how there is no development projects in Oyoko mainly roads. He then pleaded with the Assembly help them complete the police station which the natives of the town outside the country has started.

Kwabena Antwi, a native of the town raised an issue on how the Assembly gives out permit for building and the need to educate the general public extensively on the acquisition of lands for housing projects. He made emphases on the community bridge which has been leading to flooding.

Madam Veronica Serwaa of Asoaggya community also raised concerns about the zoom lion container and where it is supposed to be positioned. She stated that where the container has been placed isn’t the best and it is causing a lot of damage to their health and later pleaded for a bore-hole in their community. She then complained about their poor road network and their low current electricity system.

Madam Jemima Brako, a trader at Oyoko raised concerns about the community clinic saying it needs some improvement.

A former Assembly member of the community Mr. Daniel Owusu Kwarteng, started by praising the assembly member of the community of his good works and attitude towards his people, he said the Municipal should help and work hand in hand with him to help develop Oyoko. He later raised issues concerning the community cemetery and stated how bad the shape has become. He complained about how the natives of Oyoko pay their revenues but doesn’t see any development in the town.

Finally, Nana Owusu also asked about how beneficial the assembly will be if an individual wants to build a toilet at their residence.

 

RESPONSES

Reacting to the concerns raised by residents, The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive Representative assured citizens of the assembly working around the clock to solve problems raised.

She also said the Engineers will come around to check all the roads to examine the situations for onward address of the issues.

The Municipal Coordinating Director representative assured the community members that the Assembly will make sure all property for the Assembly would be covered by proper documentations. She explained that there will be more Town hall meetings organized within all the communities to strengthen the mutual understanding between the Assembly and the citizenry.
