The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly today awarded Seventeen (17) farmers in the municipality. The 41st National farmers’ day was celebrated at the Suhyen MA School Park where a 59 years man from Asikasu, Djaba Emmanuel, was adjudged the overall best municipal farmer.
He has eight (
acres of banana, twenty-five (25 ) acres of plantain, fifteen (15 ) acres of cocoyam, five(5) acres of cassava ,ten (10) acres of cocoa ,fifteen (15) acres of maize ,two (2) acres of coconut, eight (
acres of oil palm, one (1) acre of pepper, two (2) acres of okro, fifty-five (55) local fowls ,fifteen(15) goat and ten (10) pigs among others. He took home a knapsack spraying machine, machetes, fertilizer, Gas Stove, wellington boots, and tricycle.
The New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Adongo, commended the farmers for contributing greatly to the country’s economy, that planting for food and job’s policy introduce by government is yielding a positive result. He said when we make deliberate effort to grow and consume what we produce, it will naturally push our country toward industrialization. He also said the Department Of Agriculture has made significant strides this year. Receiving 24,000 oil palm seedlings and distributed them to 151 farmers, covering 396 acres of farmland and receiving 1,500 coconut seedlings, which were given to 33 farmers, covering 21.24 acres of farmland, He stated that the seedlings came from the Minerals Commission’s Alternative Livelihood Project, and they are helping improve the lives of our farmers right here in our Municipality. Hon comfort Asante said government will continue to invest in agriculture to ensure food security in the country.
The Municipal Director of Agriculture, Mr. Emmanuel Amenu appealed to the government to urgently recruit more Agriculture Extension Officers. He explained that a significant number of existing officers in the municipality are due for retirement, creating a growing gap in technical assistance for farmers.
Mr. Jones Amoako from Asikasu grabbed the first runner up award while Madam Janet Dzamesi from Suhyen was adjudged the second runner up.
