The Eastern Regional Junior Athletics open Championship was held on Saturday 11th October, 2025, by the Dynamic Star of the East Athletics Club at the Koforidua Youth Resource Center to celebrate the youthful energy, the discipline and resilience within the young people of the Region.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon.Samuel Adongo during his speech on behalf of the Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosua Adjei Awatey, commended the Stars of the East Athletics Club for the initiative and their continuous effort to identify, train and showcase young athletic talents which is a great evidence to their passion for the growth of sports, youth development in the Region and has proven to be an investment to the holistic development of the young people.
Hon. Samuel Adongo adds that the Regional Coordinating Council remains fully committed to promoting youth empowerment through sports. The Council will continue to collaborate with the GES, the Regional Sports Directorate, District /Municipal Assemblies and other private sectors to build strong systems that would nurture talents and develop infrastructure to sustain such events.
“I am happy to announce that the government is setting up School Sports Authority which will concentrate on sports from the basic level to the University.” He said.
Hon. Adongo encouraged the young athletes to believe in themselves and to also include determination and consistency in all they do,urging the coaches, teachers and parents to keep inspiring these young ones to also balance their sporting lives with academic excellence.
