The New Juaben North Municipal Chief Executive, Hon.Samuel Adongo who represented the Eastern Regional Minister, Hon. Rita Akosuah Awatey, at the 8th Biannual conference at SDA college of Education in the New Juaben North Municipality, thanked the garment and fashion industry in Ghana for their unity and resilience in promoting local entrepreneurship, preserving traditional craftsmanship and creating employment for the teeming Ghanaian youth.
He stressed that currently, youth unemployment stands at 14.7%, a situation that can largely be blamed on the lack of employable skills especially among the youth. It is in this line that the Government has turned its attention to the development of vocational and technical skills Education (TVET).
Hon.Adongo said,Vocational and Technical skills Education(TVET) plays important role in equipping individuals particularly the youth with the practical knowledge and skills required to thrive in today’s labour markets. Hon. Adongo encouraged all members to regard employment as not only white-colour jobs but skills in fashion design, construction, beautician and others are equally employment.
The National President for Ghana National Association of Garment Makers,Mr.Alhaji Mohammed Omar thanked the Eastern Regional Minister and her representative Hon.Samuel Adongo for coming to grace their 8th biannual Conference and urged the Government to continue assisting them with modern machines to enable them work effectively.
The Eastern Regional Director of technical and vocational skills education (TVET), Mrs. Evelyn Dansoa Boateng, adviced members to participate in Associations because Government assists the well organized groups than the individual support.
