The Municipal Chief Executive of New Juaben North Assembly, Hon.Dr. Edward Asante Antwi has stated that the Agriculture sector has increased witnessing systematic improvement due to several deliberate interventions put in place by Government to give a facelift to the sector.
Speaking at the 40th Farmers Day Celebration, he stressed that Government has taken up the challenge to find innovative ways to ensure a sustainable future for Farmers and those who rely on Agriculture.
He believe that by embracing technology and thinking outside the box, we can address the obstacles faced by farmers and create a more resilient and secure food system.
However he said Government have introduce Planting for Food and Jobs phase two, under this phase, inputs credit system to farmers have replaced the input subsidy programme.
Fifteen farmers were awarded in the Municipality for their hard work.
These awards included with Deep freezers, knapsacks spraying machines, Tricycle, machetes, wellington boots, Gas cylinders, Burners, liquid Fertilizers, Weedicides, Television Sets and GTP wax Prints.
Some of the food crops and livestock exhibited were cassava, maize, yam, plantain, cocoyam, taro crop, palm fruit, pig, poultry, coconuts and fish.
A 56years old farmer from Asikasu, Mr. Emmanuel Osabutey was adjudged the overall best Municipal farmer.
He took home a tricycle, two knapsack spraying machines, five pieces of machetes, two bags of fertilizer and half piece of cloth, among others.
Mr. Emmanuel Osabutey advised the youth to see farming as a business in order to earn a living.
The Chief of Jumapo, Obrempong Kwame Oppong Owusu congratulated all the awardees and urged them not to be complacent but continue with hard work to expand their farms.
He urged Government to educate farmers on the new farming technology trend to abreast themselves with the current trend to increase crop yield.
Obrempong suggested to Government to come out with a standard price for farm produce to motivate the youth to venture into farming to help reduce unemployment rate in the country.
The chief urged Government to provide ready market for farmers to sell their produce after harvesting to reduce post-harvest lost.
