As part of effort of safeguarding lives and properties within the Municipality, monitoring was carried out to assess flood-prone areas and dilapidated buildings ahead of the rainy season.
The Municipal Chief Executive, Hon.Samuel Adongo together with the NADMO Officers and Engineers visited several communities known to experience flooding during heavy rains in the Municipality.
The team inspected drains, waterways, encroachments and poor drainage system that could worsen flooding.
Attention was also directed to old and weak buildings that showed visible signs of structural deterioration. Some of the building were identified as unsafe and likely to collapse, especially during prolong rainfall or strong wind.
The team interacted with some residents and property owners, advising them on safety measures and the need for urgent repair or evacuation where necessary.
The MCE emphasized in the importance of proactive measures in disaster prevention. He stressed that monitoring flood-prone areas and dilapidated structures is critical to reduce loss of lives and properties.
He also called on residents to cooperate with the Assembly by keeping drains clear of debris, avoiding construction in waterways and complying with building regulations.
The monitoring concluded with assurances from the Assembly to take necessary steps, including engaging relevant agencies, enforcing regulations and intensifying public education.
