The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly organized a town hall meeting at Akwadum, a suburb of the municipality.
The forum was held with the theme: “Good Governance; The Role of Stakeholders”. The meeting was also part of Government’s policy of bringing local governance to the doorstep of the citizenry.
The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive, representative, Madam Sally Mahama in her address showcased the numerous projects undertaken by the Assembly and the ones that were yet to be completed. He stressed that, despite the novelty of the assembly, they are trying their very best to set the Municipality on a good developmental ladder.
She urged everyone that MCE doors are opened for any form of complaints and suggestions when the need be.
Mr. Alhaji. Muntala Alhassan, the Municipal Finance Officer in his presentation listed a number of infrastructural developmental Projects by the Assembly. These includes building schools, health Administration office, Chip compounds, roads, mechanized boreholes, an Astro Turf park and renovations of some selected buildings.
He explained that the total amount of money received from the Central Government for the year 2023 and its expenditure included staff salaries.
He stressed that new measures are being put in place to aid the effective collection of revenue in 2024.
ISSUES RAISED
Madam Felicia Akoto a resident in Akwadum reported on the poor road networks and their public toilet which is not functioning.
Queen mother of Akwadum , Nana Addowaa Anima raised an issue on how the Assembly have neglected their town for so many assistant that they have to received such as modern market, street lighting systems, road network and container for refuse.
A native from Akwadum asked the Assembly for when would they come to assists the farmers who farms are being destroyed by Estate developers in their vicinity.
John Boakye asked about the role of the Assembly man and the Zonal council.
Finally, the Assembly man, Hon. Mubarak, urged the Assembly to frequently organize such meetings to give the citizenry the opportunity to interact with the Assembly.
RESPONSES
Reacting to the concerns raised by residents, The Hon. Municipal Chief Executive representative assured citizens of the assembly working around the clock to solve problems raised.
She also said the Engineers will come around to check all the road to examine the situations for onward address of the issue.
The representative of the Municipal Coordinating Director assured the community members that the Assembly will come to their aid for further actions. She explained that there will be more Town hall meetings organized within all the communities to strengthen the mutual understanding between the Assembly and the citizenry.
