Introduction
Land has become a scarce resource globally, this is particularly true in the New Juaben North Municipality. The Assembly requires land to enable the undertaking of several developmental projects that could improve the infrastructural base of our communities.
In view of this, the Assembly decided to claim some lands through the evacuation of refuse heaps in some selected communities within the municipality. Two of such land reclamation were carried out in Suhyen and Oyoko.
Reclamation at Suhyen
A piece of land that served at a dumping ground for solid waste at Suhyen was reclaimed in the January of 2022 near the M/A J.H.S directly opposite the old cemetery. The reclaimed land is currently being developed into an information technology center for the community by a philanthropist.
Reclamation at Oyoko
A refuse heap near the Oyoko Presby Basic School caused nuisance and posed danger to the health of pupils and residents. Due to the close proximity of the site to the school, the Honorable Assembly member made a request to management to evacuate the refuse to reclaim the land for future use.
The evacuation was done successfully and the land has been reclaimed for use by the Assembly for future projects.
Attached are some photos of the reclamation exercise.
