SITUATIONAL REPORT ON FLOODING AT THE NEW JUABEN NORTH MUNICIPALITY

Communities in the New Juaben North Municipality experienced heavy downpour of rain last week resulting in the loss of life and properties.

Major roads leading to Koforidua were severely flooded after the downpour on Sunday.

Flooded roads includes the Effiduase Traffic light, Abrewankwanta stretch of the Koforidua to Suhum highway, and the Akwadum portion leading to Suhum.

More than hundreds of passengers and drivers were left stranded as the floods prevented vehicular movement for many hours.

The Goil fuel filling station at Effiduase Traffic light as well as the Shell Fuel filling station at Abrewankwanta roundabout were all submerged destroying their pumps and stored fuel.

The mechanic shops around all those places were not left the hook and were submerged destroying dozens of vehicles under repairs.

The floods have affected a lot of people in the communities.Asokore community recorded the highest number of people with 1,448 being affected by the rain.

It is sad to mention that there was one fatality as a result of the flooding to death.

The New Juaben North Municipal Assembly is working tirelessly to ensure that it provides the necessary support to the affected communities.

The Municipal Chief Executive and her team have visited the affected towns to get firsthand information and commiserate with the affected people. The Assembly would be sending relief items like blankets, mattresses, mosquito nets, rice, oil and sugar to support the people. Also, the Assembly would carry out chlorination of the wells, as well as dislodging water in wells at the affected communities to ensure that there is no outbreak of health issue. Also, the Assembly has tasked the information service department, National commission for civic Education and the Health Directorate to carry out extensive public education on the need for the people to stay safe and report on any pandemic which may arise.
